Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) are applied to building components in some state of disrepair as a way to add outer reinforcement, where substrate properties are often lacking. By implementing SurCoPrimer, a stable and durable substrate is emphasized through increased tensile and compressive strength. In addition, any corrosion is pacified, inhibited, and reversed to prevent future delamination due to corrosive rebar expansion.
COATINGS & CORROSION INHIBITOR
Applying a coating to an older structure tends to seal off the concrete surface and prevent it from breathing, encapsulating the corrosive environment already in place. SurCoPrimer prohibits corrosion by reducing permeability, elevating/buffering the pH, and pacifying chloride activity. SurCoPrimer provides for a stable, more durable substrate promoting tensile and compressive strength conducive to coating applications adhesion.
REPAIRS & CORROSION INHIBITOR
Applying cement repairs to concrete substrates and addressing the issue of corrosion by cleaning or replacing rebar in the repair area can lead to accelerated corrosion rates in the immediate proximity. SurCoPrimer prevents the “anodic ring” formation by inhibiting corrosion directly by accessing (depositing on) the embedded reinforcement as well creating a non-corrosive concrete environment surrounding the rebar.
Higher substrate tensile and compressive strength due to application of SurCoPrimer provides for improved repair durability with superior adhesive properties. By restoring and improving the properties of the existing substrates, concrete costs associated with removal and subsequent replacement of the cement surfaces are also minimized.

SurCoPrimer is a group of products used as an underlayment for all types of concrete repairs, sealants, coatings, and FRP.
Before surface repairs can be in place, the underlying causes of concrete deterioration need to be addressed.
Concrete corrosion may include surface degradation due to impact, freeze/thaw, chemical contamination, and the embedded rebar corrosion.
Applying repairs such as coatings or FRP to weak chloride contaminated concrete surfaces may accelerate corrosion and lead to failure due to poor adhesion.
SurCoPrimers are designed as a coating, FRP, and corrosion inhibitor to penetrate the weak contaminated concrete substrates and combine them chemically to:
- Increase tensile and compressive strength
- Reduce permeability
- Elevate and buffer the pH
- Remove/pacify water-soluble chlorides
- Create a non-corrosive environment for the embedded steel
SurCoPrimer components in gaseous form deposit on all elements of steel to provide a corrosion shield for the rebar infrastructure. SurCoPrimer corrosion inhibitors eliminate “hot spots” and are effective at both anodic and cathodic sites.
