SURTREAT SurCoPrimer FRP Layer I – Steel Reinforced Concrete/ Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP)
SurCoPrimer – FRP Layer I (SCP I) is a surface applied vapor phase migratory steel corrosion inhibitor for application on concrete members prior to application of SurCoPrimer – FRP Layer II (SCP II).

Reduction in rebar corrosion rate can extend life of a structure by a factor of three times.
Specification
Corrosion inhibitor performance is verified by comparative performance on corrosion active reinforced concrete using ASTM G 109 modified for surface application of inhibitor. Average results in laboratory and measurements made on structures by a polarization resistance method method gave an 80% reduction in corrosion rate. The use of surface applied vapor phase migratory corrosion inhibitors are described in ICRI Guide 510.2-2019 section 5.4 and UFGS 09 97 23.17 “Corrosion Inhibitor Coating of Concrete Surfaces” section 2.2.1.

Caution and Safety
Handling: SURTREAT SCP I is to be applied by professional contractors only. All applicators should wear OSHA and NIOSH recommended protective equipment. Do not use or dilute the product in closed areas without adequate ventilation. Immediately close the container after removal of the solution. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Do not smoke, eat or drink during application. Wash thoroughly after handling. Keep out of reach of children. Do not inhale or ingest or modify the solution. Refer to SDS.
Clean Up: In case of spills or leaks, wear suitable protective equipment. Contain spill and collect with absorbent material or process and transfer to a suitable container, ventilate area. Avoid contact. Dispose of in accordance with current, applicable local, state and federal regulations.
Precautions: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. DO NOT SWALLOW. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid mist and direct contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Wear suitable protective goggles, gloves, and clothing. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. If you feel ill, seek medical advice. Wash clothing prior to re-use.

Where To Use
SurCoPrimer – FRP Layer I is designed as part of an underlayment for the installation of outer reinforcement (FRP) to recondition the concrete substrate, pacify and prevent corrosion of the embedded steel.
Appropriate for use on all reinforced concrete structures where FRP repairs are being conducted. Intended for use in combination with SURTREAT SurCoPrimer – FRP Layer II.
Application Procedure
Recommend making application of SCP I as first step in project to allow sufficient time for reaction and drying. Make one application by spray, or paint roller and brush at rate to fully wet the concrete surface. Depending on concrete porosity the resulting application rate can be between 100 200ft2/gallon. Allow to dry and then make one application of water. SCP II can be applied when the surface is completely dry.
Limitations
- Minimum ambient temperature and substrate temperature of 35F. Do not apply when temperature is expected to fall below freezing within twelve hours. SCP I will not penetrate sealers, coatings, paints, and membranes. When used indoors caution should be taken to provide adequate ventilation and additional protective gear such as respirators should be worn by the applicators.
