Application Note
Introduction
The Problem
Narrow and hairlines cracks under 1/8” width are common in concrete structures due to shrinkage, surface stress, and environmental exposure. While these cracks may appear minor, they allow moisture and contaminants to penetrate, which can lead to rebar corrosion, concrete deterioration, and reduced structural integrity over time. Left untreated, these cracks can propagate, creating additional vulnerabilities in the concrete.
Mitigation Strategy
To effectively address hairline cracks and small gaps, the following steps are recommended:
Clean and Prepare: Ensure the surface is clean and free from contaminants to allow for optimal product penetration and adhesion.
Seal Cracks and Gaps: Apply products that bridge and seal cracks, strengthen the concrete, and prevent further cracking.
Waterproof: Protect the treated areas with a water repellent to minimize future moisture ingress and contamination.
